6 Flags with fear for breakfast and lunch!!!

Riddlers Revenge. Nasty stuff!! This, ladies and gents, is the world's tallest STAND-UP penta loop rollercoaster!!! It like none other, really.

the 8 daredevils at 6 flags!!

we didnt ride this cos they closed it due to bad weather. but de javu?
you cant get another like this.

Red and white ride is the Viper. All but one rode on the World's largest looping rollercoaster!!
if you think it looks scary, head down to your nearest 6 Flags, i assure you it is.

The ariel view was awesome. Getting up there in the lift was sheet scary okay,
thats why there arent piccas.

We were sooo proud we went on Riddler's the Stand up and Viper and 7 rides in total!!
Three of us were scared sheetless before.

This is Superman. Only two of them went on. Its soo quick, standing underneath the bridge makes you cringe and scream FOR them.

one of the group's first reactions to this was, "hoooooooolyy...(followed by various profanities i'd rather not repeat) you're NOT shitting me"

I should be thankful this was under construction.
I would've pee-ed in my pants otherwise.

then of course we have these cuties walking around to calm you down....

I had a lil toy bugs bunny as a kid and mum threw it out..
this is the closest i'l get to one soon!!

This tongue thing, I dont know. Just love it.
I guess there really is alot you can do with it.

Bear with the exclaimation marks. The adrenaline is still pumping. Its been an awesome day. from catapulting out of bed and preping in 5 mins to the car ride to the carazay rides. Speaking of which, Escape in Singapore is peanuts. And the Royal Melbourne Show's pales in comparison. We're talking about black and white kind of pale.

And so after 7 rides, lots of screaming and fear as Meal of the Day, I've got no voice now. Zero. Mike test. Fail. Some think its good cos I talk less. Idiots. But I tell myself they lie to themselves. Like to I do. (Didnt that sound so bimbotic?) But anyway.

Thought I'd share the classic lines on the rollercoaster and i shouldnt reveal who said what. Mostly before the pluges, hair pins and high speed spirals of course...

"but i'm not ready to die yet!!!'
"i love life, right Charmaine. do you? talk to me!!!"
"fffaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrkk!! fark fark farkk!!!" (during the ride)
"you said..joy ride. RIGHT?"
"eh what're you doing Monday and Tuesday. Maybe we should think about that instead"
"you go tell my parents i love them. okay. promise?"\

The Bird Disucssion:

"wow the view is so beautiful..i wish i was a bird"
"if i was a bird, i'd think humans are insane la. Fly also want to scream, fly also cannot fly properly!!Must swirl here and there. Siao"
"no la actually maybe they'll learn a trick or two.."

Clearly, my goal here is to study.

You get used to the darkness

Jason, Diana and me at The Grove. My laughing pills.

After you live with 2 roommates who sleep earlier than you, or dont sleep in the room at all, you become accustomed to moving around with little light, listening to music at decent levels and being sleek after 2am.

I finally have a few significant things to mention. But today i'll just touch on my sleepless night.

Basically I crawled into bed at 2 and couldnt get to bed till 7. And this was after talking to Steph, Jia, eating sour worms, a sneakers bar and listening to comforting songs. I even sms-ed home to make sure it wasnt telephathy or that something went wrong at home. Everything was aokay. Mum and dad were good. i assumed the Brother down under was fine. It couldnt be the assignments since Im not one to fret over tiny ones. It couldnt be the latte at dinner, my body is used to daily consumption.

Waiting is painful. For most things anyway.

I concluded it was a one off insomnia episode. Now wasnt that entertaining...

Reminder to self: Next issues to mention - The giving practice, true happiness, gayness and more. Stay tuned!

Suppose I wasnt that eager

You see, I have nothing meaningful to blog about. I just need you the people who keep track of my life to know a few things.

Im good. The usual, you know. Skipping classes, learning more in bible study and having more a social life than academic one. Thats the norm.

Oh, and I think im putting on the Freshman's fifteen.

The lesson of missing lessons

If you were shot for every class you miss, I ought to be positioned at a firing rage ready to receive my fair share of punishment.

I have 9 hours of class per week this quarter. And I have already skipped a solid one third of them.

And to make myself feel better, Im meeting people for coffee. Because I need to feel productive. Somehow.

One day of studying does this to you

Sitting here counting the hours
Waiting for the sun to kiss the sea
Paralyzed by the fragrance of the flowers
They remind me of you and me

There's one love in a lifetime
Our two hearts of a kind
These three reasons you'll be mine
For when five and six are through
Seven days without you, Seven days without you.

Making plans just to stop the aching
Chasing thoughts from a million miles away
Hypnotized as another dawn is breaking
I rehearse the words I want to say

Well I will find a way into your heart
So let me try and sleep before we know

This is excessive blogging but...hey

the moutain climbing can wait. but at least i got you smiling for a good 10 seconds. :)

Raising the bar

Well, there're a few possible situations to be guzzling a Mocha Latte and a pastry at 2am on a Saturday. You could be drunk and be craving food. Or have a enviable high metabolic rate such that you constantly suffer from a horrific disease I call hunger. Or you could be like me, someone who has crazy profs who assign homework on Thursday nights and expect it in by Saturday night.

It works out all right I guess. The guy who served me the muffin was pretty cute. And he was Asian too. But moving right along...

I have yet to touch on the culture here. It would be an overstatement to say I've experienced culture shock. Different, thats all. Just for the sake of convenience, I'll list out a 10 differences:

1) Toilet flush is swirled downwards but in Melbourne its swirled inwards.

2) Students arrive early and on time for class but at Melbourne people dont even go.

3) Everyone walks around like they've got the President's meeting to attend.

4) Walking around with Starbucks coffee instantly makes you look like Sarah Jessica Parker, except we're not in Manhattan and we're college kids.

5) Students raise their hands in lectures as participation. Well, Melbourne has tutorials. Which is often a discussion among 3 and an audience of 7.

6) At any point in time, there will be at least 3/5 people around you with their faces glued to their cellphones. Phonebooth was absolutely accurate with NewYork's stats. Someone should do it in LA too.

7) LA fitness craze baby! If they're not in a dance class, they're jogging, or waiting in line for the treadmill. Basically...they're moving.

8) Lingo bingo! Rubbish=trash/fringe=bangs/ HEAPS = alot/jumper= sweatshirst

9) School Pride. We have school rivalrywith University of Southern California (USC). Some people at our college dont even have red clothes. And its unsafe to wear the USC jumper in Westwood. Cos its just bustling with UCLA kids. I am buying my very own UCLA sweatshirt soon.

10) Sport. Enough said. We're gonna beat Arizona in Men's bball baby!

This clock never seemed so alive

In reference to anon's comments: Are you too depressed to shit? Or are you depressed to a shit level. I believe phrasing is very important. Maybe its because I hang out with a person called Zack...but thats very not the issue here.

On a brighter note, tonight I decided to be random to go for the Exchange Abroad Program's free dinner. When I got there, I spotted the Singos immediately. Well you would too if you saw them. They were posing with the Singapore flag! Dude... It couldnt get better than that right. And why do we have problems with nationalism and pride in our red dot? Seems overwhelming here. Also, I think I've officially found the craziest bunch of people so willing to explore beyond their boundaries. Either this sunday or next sunday we're gonna 6 Flags then universal studios too! Plans are falling into place! and the travelling is going to begin!!

Earlier today I skipped my Gender and Sexuality in Korean American Culture class to go to a silly mandatory Visa session. Its a stupid class. Its cool cos at the Visa Session we gathered all the Aussie exchanges! Thats amazing, cause everyone was like 'where the heck have you guys been?!!' Apparently, there's going to be trip to Santa Babara to celebrate Aussie Day!

At this rate, I have one of two options. Start paying attention in class. Or fail this quarter. Maybe I'll pay attention for once...It should all be worth it!!

for you, maybe I will

we have this thing going on. i call it carazehhh love.

I wanna talk to some people soon! And because I know you guys want to too, please download Skype and we can chat anytime you want. :)

Im beginning to realise my days with Zack are always the nicest ones. Because I miss people who can take my sacarsm and I-think-I'm-so-smart comments. Or people who are wholesome. Or people who ask how you day was. Just so you know, thats not the norm.

Simply because Im a girl and i talk in riddles here's my somewhat how life is:

Cancer
The transit of Mars brings partnerships into high focus. This is a great time for you to work with others to achieve a particular goal or follow your dream. The major thing to remember is to compromise and not think that everything has to be done your way. The partnership must have equality to survive. Today is one of high energy that's perfect for pushing forward with goals and getting lots of things completed.

Particular goal? Check.
Compromise? Check.
Not everything my way? Check.
A lot of things to complete? Check.

Tuesday, January 16, 2007

So lately, you've been gone.

If you're wondering how the fishing is going, dont wonder just yet. From the looks of it, there arent many fish and there some problems with the bait.

I have to take a picture of this guy. He looks like Ben G but has Omar's personality. Isnt that interesting. Some of you have heard of him.

Today is the Martin Luther King holiday. Quite frankly, Im still unsure what it means. I'll figure it out. But as of now there're no classes. And just a lot of time to do readings.

I'm beginning to realise I'm pretty lactose intolerant.

And that I've been typing in one liners.

Sunday, January 14, 2007

You know you're officially starting school if ....

1) Your desk is all organized with all but one reader and other readings untouched.

2) You have learnt more at Bible Study than first week of college.

3) You actually start drawing up a schedule of classes.

4) Your Sore thighs are accustomed to the crazy hills at UCLA.

5) Its that time of the week to do laundry.

I dont have pictures for the simple reason that I feel like an absolute freshman though im a junior here. Im that girl with the bright yellow UCLA map in her hand even though its Winter Quarter.

The one song that makes me smile so wide

You can't manufacture a miracle
The silence was pitiful-that day
And love is getting too cynical
Passion's just physical-these days
You analyse everyone you meet
But get no sign - loving kind
Every night you admit defeat
And cry yourself blind

If you can't wake up in the morning
'Cause your bed lies vacant at night
If you're lost, hurt, tired or lonely
Can't control it try as you might
May you find that love that won't leave you
May you find it by the end of the day
You WON'T be lost, hurt, tired or lonely
Something beautiful will come your way

The DJ said on the radio
Life should be stereo - each day
And the past that cast the unsuitable
Instead of some kind of beautiful
You just couldn't wait
All your friends think you're satisfied
But they can't see your soul, no, no, no
Forgot the time feeling petrified
When they lived alone

If you can't wake up in the morning
'Cause your bed lies vacant at night
If you're lost, hurt, tired or lonely
Can't control it try as you might
May you find that love that won't leave you
May you find it by the end of the day
You WON'T be lost, hurt, tired or lonely
Something beautiful will come your way

Some kind of beautiful x3

All your friends think you're satisfied
But they can't see your soul, no, no, no
Forgot the time feeling petrified
When they lived alone

If you can't wake up in the morning
'Cause your bed lies vacant at night
If you feel lost, hurt, tired or lonely
Can't control it try as you might
May you find that love that won't leave you
May you find it by the end of the day

You WON'T be lost, hurt, tired or lonely
Something beautiful will come your way x2

Whereever you guys are, miss you lots awesome foursome.

there's something to live with you

Today was tight. I stopped to talk to a record number of random people. Thats all I have to say right now. And many deja vus.

And a cute person which reminds me of someone in Melbourne. But thats all.

Life from here on should be pretty good. I give myself a pat on the back.

When life is empty and there's no tomorrow

let me give you a one liner: Im exhausted and wish there was more fun going on.

for those who are unaware, here's the time differences:

Singapore: LA is 8 hours ahead. But technically 1 day behind.
Melbourne: LA 5 hours ahead. But technically 1 day behind.

Amigos buritos.

Asian girls can be quite hot

Im having a 2 hour break after lunch before my dreadful 4pm class. In Melbourne, I miss all the morning classes. Now I am left without an excuse to skip these classes. Well technically I am skipping a class titled Entertainment as Implicit Pedagogy. It is entirely not my doing if its title so dodge and the introductory class describing how humans watch animals and later behave like them in real life. Its was so cool....I fell asleep. And just so we're clear, I never fall asleep in class, I just dont go.

To make even more frustrating news, my Visa credit card doesnt work at the UCLA store! Down the drain goes my UCLA merchandise shopping, other random things and necessary essentials till next week. Why? Because it takes one ferrrigggin week to transfer money from one place to another. Dude, just give me the thing and I'll check it in myself mannn. Dont get it man, these things so messed up.

You know how its global knowledge that Americans say 'like' a lot in their sentences? How most of them dont know where Singapore or Australia is? Or how everything here has fattening cheese in it? That California, and LA in particular is health crazy and well educated about food nutrition? That you need a car to get around or walking can be such a pain? UCLA has more Asians than Americans?

Every single thing you heard about those? True.

Then you know how people talk about Californian college kids surfing up to school? How Americans smoke heaps? How the area of Hollywood is safe and all shimmery shooodoole doo glam? How Coffee bean and Starbucks is the same difference here?

All these and a lot more. Wrong, baby, we got it all wrong.

Welcome to America ladies and gents. Welcome to California LA. Best of all Welcome to UCLA. the University of Californians Lost Amongst Asians.

inconvenient times

Right now, my mind runs on three different time zones - LA, Singapore and Melbourne. Honestly, its getting very mentally exhausting just adding and subtracting the hours and Im quite certain i'll be dropping Melbourne and Singapore real soon. Its already Sunday and there is an urgent need to settle down and get issues straightened out.

One of my roommates is Korean! Jenny's quite random and cute. We make such peas in a pod! Okay, joking. I'll take pictures once sarah joins us today. Then you guys can enjoy :)

Most people here can take the form of someone I know. This student leader reminds me sooo much of Buckley and another guy reminds me of Ayush! Everyone else is kinda mambl jumbo, mixed blood but I can sitll identity them with a familiar face. I've yet to find another kei, another lexus and another stepho cowwo. They're quite irreplacable, to be honest. Go ahead and grin Kei, i know you likeeeeee it. (Happy Feeet style - Mae?)

Its Sunday by the way and I should get ready for my campus tours very kindly offered by the Residential Assistant. Basically everyone has been here for the Fall quarter and I'm joining them for Winter.

Well, its New air, fresh air and this morning's really bad hair. P.S I like rhyming words.

Love lots!

Instruction Manual

Its friggin Saturday and Sunset Village is still void of human contact.

For a social person, Im pretty clamped up in a new place. I should generally be better than this.

In and out

today:

  • i survived an 18 hour flight. it was like condominium to HDB
  • i witnessed the crazy LA airport scene; never have i seen immigrtion queues quite that long
  • it hit me between the eyes that anyone other than Americans are aliens.
  • my bah kuah appreciation gift was confiscated
  • turblence on the plan while it makes a turn is horrifying
  • even worse if nice japanese lady farted
  • UCLA campuses are like ghost towns and are run nothing quite like IH
  • is my first day using campus broadband internet. im definitely loving it
  • i spent my first US dollar on good ice cream and cookies
  • i was introduced to the idea that students that USC are losers and
  • wearing the UCLA jumper around Westwood is cool
  • it should be known that australian culture is very amusing to the americans
  • would also be the day i get decent sleep in the last 72 hours
  • LA is exceptionally cold and windy. not the most pleasant welcome
  • will be the first time i have felt nervousness, reality, euphoria, and emptiness all in less than 24 hours
Other than enrolling for classes, I guess I'm doing good. LA will still be here tomorrow morning. Its been quite well for first day with less than 10 people in my block. This place accomodates up to 4000 people...

Night my loves. Hope you have a great evening, night, morning or afternoon wherever you are. Im off to hit to sack.

confessions of the egg-layer

Most of you who know me well enough understand my ability to pack is comparable to a chicken's ability to lay eggs. We're talking the force fed, fat-beyond-chick-obesity kind of ability. So clearly I have given myself the challenge of packing merely the night before my 6 month adventure to the US of A and more specifically the Sunshine State. Im flirting with an idea of pulling an all nighter.

Lets talk about how I feel. Okay technically this is me speaking and you reading. So here's the deal. Leaving early seems like a big deal to me, especially since this holiday was the ideal one with people I love. And thats not even a sweeping statement. Nothing is ever enough. If I ruled this universe, school should start in Feburary all over the world. Finger nails should be permanently chip free, heels should be painless and people should have souls.

Kei must be reading this laughing her guts out. But back to how I feel. Remember, I am the epitome of focusedness. So anway, its a simultaneous energy combination of pre-departure, i-have-no-idea-how arrival will be jitters plus twin tower high expectations myself and California. I told you 2007 was gonna rock!

I promise to make this light hearted. Otherwise it seems like Im going to Cali to commit social suicude or the other. The best part of all this, is the year seems all planned out. People have decided whats going to happen when I am back in Singapore for a week, when I'm back in Melbourne for another 6 months. And plans for New Year's 2008.

With all this, who needs those 30 second resolutions these days?

My flight should be smooth. 9.40 start : Singapore-Tokyo-LA. I havent had moments to gather anything together but if I could do it now...2006 started off on a horrible note but ended so sweet I wish I hadnt made the decision to go on exchange. But all's arranged and you should've feel my euphoria.

I know random people read this most times. HIHI! (big Singapore Kallang wave)

It seems like the star awards..doesnt it. Wait for it.

So leaving yet again will be bitter sweet, but I love you guys all the same. Those in Singapore and still enjoying before local U, take care honeys. Those in Singapore chilling before Melbourne in Feb, soak up the heat, cos Melbourne's will be worse. Those waiting to leave for US of A in a few days, safe flights ladies. Those already in the US of A or Melbourne, hold your horses and mark your calendar cos city hang outs would be a must. And those of you who read randomly, peace out and well, what can i say, 2007 will explode before you!!

And for the first time ever, Im going to have long distance friendships. The best part of tonight, is people admitting they'd miss me! I take pride in this because for 4 whole months, they've been happy for me to leave!! Very funny you crazy cows. Feel free to guess who it is:

Her:
eeks
we'll see how the awesome foursome will go long distance relationship
aww this is a sad moment
i miss u already

Me:
im here !!
in singapore!!

Her:
i know
but u'll b gone soon
=(

P.S Lexus leave me a msg let me know you're safe in Thailland!!

And as Ayush put it well, there's just one more day of peace in Tokyo and LA. Bring it on babyyyy!
